2- People that are doing big things, have coaches…
I was introduced to CrossFit in 2010. At first, I was intimidated! My first thoughts were “What the heck am I doing here? And how did I let him talk me into checking this out?!” You see my husband Steve had been CrossFitting with his friends for a few months and I have to admit I was a bit curious to see what he was up to but I didn’t dare go. Then one day he asked me to join him and I finally caved. After my first workout of the day (which included deadlifts, pull ups and GHD sit ups) the initial shock wore off and I was hooked.

I have always considered myself athletic. In high school, I was a cheerleader, played tennis and did archery. As a young adult, I did P90X, insanity and many group fitness classes but nothing gave me the adrenaline rush I felt during that first WOD. I was frustrated, challenged and excited all at the same time. Soon after, Steve received military orders that would have him away for six months. Without him, I knew I wouldn’t know how to continue my journey. I joined my first CrossFit box where I was thrilled to learn all the foundational movements and met some of the most awe-inspiring athletes. I quickly became obsessed with learning everything I could about olympic lifts and gymnastic movements. Before I knew it I was riding ecstatically on a train of personal records and I couldn’t wait to to share with Steve all the things I had learned. While he was gone I learned so many functional movements, learned to eat healthy and lost 30lbs! To me CrossFit is a consistent challenge that I can’t control and I LOVE that! Everyday and every workout is different whether it is the unique design of the programming or merely how I respond to it. I also fell head over heels with the community, the competitiveness yet amazing sportsmanship is contagious. Now, I am so fortunate to be able to share that passion with others as a coach. As a coach, I find it my responsibility to make sure that new athletes not only feel comfortable but also can perform the movements standards safely. I want to be sure that I tailor my coaching to YOUR unique goals; I want my athletes to feel that they are seen, heard and are a valued member of our CrossFit family.
I think Theodore Roosevelt’s quote embodies the spirit of CrossFit. “It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the area, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood… who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms… who at the best knows in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat..
